Klosterman Articles – Ernesto Robinson (11/5)

SUMMARY

The first article “The Awe-Inspiring Beauty of Tom Cruise’s Shattered, Troll-like Face”, mentions that now in comparison to the 1970s reality is “more transient and less concrete” which makes it harder for current filmmakers now because we lack a concrete understanding of reality. He discusses how he likes Vanilla Sky because it questions reality which is centered around this idea in our world where we have lost sense of it. He comes to the conclusion after a review of all the films is that reality “it depends on us as much as we depend on it”. In the second article, he talks about how watching games that aren’t live gives a different experience from watching them live. Since there is that element of not knowing what is going to happen and that “anything is possible”.

OUTSIDE READING

This is a video that Danny Ocean posted on his Youtube channel where he performs 13 songs live. Some of the songs he performs are Veneno, Cuando me acerco a ti, and Swing. He says he wanted to post a free Live Performance on his youtube channel for his fans that have been with him since the beginning. Danny Ocean is his stage name but his actual name is Daniel Alejandro Morales Reyes. The singer is from Venezuela and the song that shot him into stardom is Me Rehuso.

READING CONNECTIONS

While reading the article on the difference between seeing something live and something prerecorded I made the connection to concerts in person versus seeing them in a prerecorded video. The reason I chose this video is because before COVID hit I was going to see Danny Ocean perform but the concert was cancelled. So watching this video makes me think like although this is nice how wonderful it would’ve been to seen it in person. There is just something different when watching someone perform live and in person. Like in a video of a concert you can skip around the video to hear the songs you want but there is something about listening to all their music and waiting for that one song you love. Being in a crowd of people who also love the artist and singing the songs together there is something more pleasurable in that then watching it by yourself online.
